Unfortunately we don’t get news as TRUTH many times because due to those who report it and their own personal belief about what’s going on

Impact the most people? Most? So we just have to count and we know what is more news? And when do we count? The day after? A year later? The criterium ‘most’ is a pitfall.

Why are newsworthy stories not being reported?
Who is behind the diversion?
Now, that’s news. (But we’ll never hear about it.)

It is impossible to present everything so things are picked from the pile. Unfortunately this is a matter of judgment. Obviously the one criteria is what would impact the Most people in a given region. This should likely be the primary criteria. Again, it’s based on judgement.
I’d like news to be an unmolested account of the events that have occurred based on sets of information that have an impact on the most people, but that doesn’t sell commercials or papers.

This is one of the downfalls of the amount of information we have available.
It begs the question now, what constitutes news. News is that which will have an impact on the daily life, or future planning of our race, continent, country, province, county, city, or locality.
This forms the requirement that any happening that occurs that is of, or could affect the stake of the people in any of those regions should be available for their information.
December 25th, 2011 at 3:30 am
News should be an unfettered accounting of what has occurred. It should be a display of the facts to the public so they may be informed as to the status of a given scenario. Opinion and conjecture is just analysis of the information. This analysis is being blended into our news programs as part of any news presentation. We heed to specialists for an opinion because there is so much to be informed of now we can not possibly know enough to form an entire argument ourselves.

Thanks to everyone here for sharing their thoughts on what news is and what it should be. We received a great comment via e-mail from Rory in Ontario so we’re posting it here for others to see (in three parts.

“perception of true” or a “perception of fact” is what you show to people. only time&pacient can tell what is THEtruth. history are often written in a “perception of truth” or “perception of fact”.
December 25th, 2011 at 5:18 am
News is truth supported by fact, not opinion presented as fact. Here it is, now form your own opinion and don’t insinuate how I should feel about the news.

Good point. More absurd ‘intersting’ news examples: Super Mario Cart, pepperoni pizza, bullying fourth graders, wishful thinking, converting heathens into dogma, various crimes, urinating in public pools under duress.

Boooring^^
If u wanna have news that will be watched from many people, just say a few sentences about Paris Hilton and you´ll be more succesfull xD
…..oh man I hate Paris Dumbass Hilton…..-.-
December 25th, 2011 at 6:27 am
If news is just what people are interested in, then porn is news. News Stories should be prioritized in descending order from the highest # of people they will effect. Car crashes and Paris Hilton should be squeezed out entirely into local and gossip publications.

I would have enjoyed this more if you had talked to people from other papers. (Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Des Moines Register, LA Times) And for the record: The Newseum is no longer under construction. It’s done.

news is journalism. journalism is information without the neeed for proper reference or ‘unbended’ truth. i am very scientific and think that information is taken to lightly in journalism and is presented in forms that is too open for opinion.
but most of all, journalism is entertainment.
i also believe that rather than help us think about other parts of the world, it makes us think that we somehow make a difference by knowing something, wich is having the opposite effect.

This is pretty funny to read. It has a striking resemblance to assessments of media I’ve heard from people in regards to living in communist countries. I guess whether the control is communist gov’t or fascist corporate the end result isn’t all that different.

I know it when I see it. Paris Hilton is NOT news.

I don’t have time to run around the world interviewing heads of state, or run around my neighborhood interviewing community activists. I am utterly dependent on newspapers to tell me what’s going on.
Entering adulthood without subscribing to a decent newspaper is like driving down the highway at night at ninety miles an hour after covering your windshield with black paint. Not smart.
